COMING SOON

Welcome to the Retired Ham Site!

Here I share my trials and experiences in automation, electronics, radio, solar, programming and a few other crazy interests I have. Over the past few years I have shifted my home monitoring and control direction to Home-Assistant (HA), I recently retired and have more time to devote and sharing my findings.  Home-assistant is constantly evolving, finding the best practices for the latest version can be rather challenging so I will do my best to keep updating blogs to reflect the updated versions. Prior to working with HA I built early monitoring systems in the late 90’s using Visual Basic for applications & API’s, later moving to iPhone Apps I wrote in objective-C / Swift which communicated with Node.js REST’s talking to an back-end MSSQL server. Over the last few years I decided to scale back from power hungry Dell servers running Windows Server by moving everything to Linux running on fanless devices, Raspberry PI’s and System76 servers. I look forward to engaging the HA community to assist the average person who wishes to build an automated home but may not have the programming knowledge or know where to start.
